The most patched up country outfit in Mogol, won by Francislei, brings a message about recycling and kindness
It wasn't just any Festa Junina. There were, in fact, typical dishes prepared by Chef Mateus. And much more! There was fishing, little flags made of printed fabrics waving in the blue sky, a bonfire crackling on the banks of the stream. And much more! There was a band playing forró and even an expert in traditional festivities leading the dance and square dances of the adults and the Life School kids in the middle of the white sands of Praia do Mogol. There was much more! Look at the photos and you'll see that what I'm saying isn't a lie!
If it's to celebrate, there's no lack of excitement, style and whimsy in country costumes! Even more so with some great prizes, which gave everyone a real boost this year. It was the Ibiti Arraiá Most Patched Clothing Contest that stimulated creativity. And the Ibiti community did a lot of beautiful things before, during and after the parade!
There was Igor, of the horses, arriving with a blowing horn, Tati, from Dona Odete, with her hair upright with the whole family in character, the other Tati, from Mogol, drawing applause with her relaxed parade, Thiaguinho imitating a drunkard, Miguelzinho carrying cassava on the back of his inseparable bicycle, this time an old model... and many more people in costumes, smiling and ready to shake their hips.
When it came time to choose, it was reeeally hard, but the popular vote left no doubts, taking the criteria into consideration too, right?
1st Place: Francislei rocked it! with his shirt all patched up with scraps sewn by his wife – and on top of that with Ibiti details applied.
2nd Place: Jorge danced all afternoon with his bag over his shoulder, acting like a real country boy!
3rd Place: Bárbara with braids, a “tattoo” of little flags on her shins and the Mogol Church in celebration embroidered on her blouse with recycled material, she paid attention to every detail!
Next year there will be more! Start thinking about the patched clothes, ok? The costumes from this first edition of the contest will be turned into paintings to decorate the village's rooms!
1st Place
Francislei, a maintenance worker, has been working at the Ibiti for five years and had the help of his seamstress wife to make the shirt, using 183 different pieces of fabric that would otherwise have gone to waste. In addition to the clothes, he also wrote a calango (sung verses) especially for the show:
In this contest, I came to compete,
When I went up, my heart skipped a beat,
Knowing I had to match with the recycling bit
That's why I'm wearing a mix-and-matched fit
It took a lot of work to make
But to make up for it, I'm looking great
2nd Place
Jorge, construction manager
“I created the character, I like that way, of being a country boy”
3rd Place
Bárbara, who was part of Ibiti's marketing team
“I had help from my mother-in-law in making it”
Miguel Giovaninni, with his country bike
Igor paraded with a blowing horn
Tati and the whole family in character
