The Muriqui House project carried out at Ibiti Projeto in partnership with MIB - Muriqui Institute of Biodiversity aims to promote the survival of isolated northern muriquis and their reproduction, in order to increase the population of individuals in the region and thus save the species from extinction. There are currently fewer than 900 individuals left in the wild.
The last muriquis in Ibitipoca were just two males, who lived alone in a small area of forest with no conditions for reproduction or long-term survival. Now, with the Muriqui House project, they are protected, living together with other females who were in a similar situation and will be able to contribute to the increase and recovery of their species.
